Satellite Campus

HIS Wamena is located in Wamena, a frontier city in the wide Baliem valley between two rugged mountain ranges in the central highlands of Papua. An hour-long flight is the only way to get there from the main Sentani campus. This satellite school serves the missionary families living in that area. The Wamena campus consists of school building that has three classrooms, a covered basketball court, a playground structure, and a large field which is used as a playing area.

There are about 25 students in grades 1-8. These students represent four different nationalities. Three full-time teachers staff the Wamena school. Two teachers teach multi-grade classes and one teacher teaches mother tongue studies. In this small school setting, parent volunteers are a key to helping meet the school’s needs.
