Hostel Life

Expatriate families who live and work in the interior of Papua and in neighboring provinces want their children to receive a quality education, but often find homeschooling the upper grades too difficult a challenge.

To meet this need, HIS provides family-styled boarding facilities for children grades 6-12. Due to demand, HIS  recently expanded its facilities and has begun building a second permanent hostel on campus, right next to the first one.

The hostel rooms are setup in college-styled suites with adjoining bathrooms—guys' and girls' suites in separate parts of the hostel. Living, dining, computers, recreation, and entertainment centers are all together in a large central area.

Hostel parents oversee the students' meals and medicines, get them to activities, take them on shopping trips and beach outings, and are there to provide a listening ear, words of advice, or a shoulder to lean on.

Hostel students are close to classes and school activities and get a chance to share life and build strong bonds with fellow hostel students.
