Elementary and Middle School Campus

The elementary and middle school has approximately 100 students (K-8). The E/MS campus is adjacent to, but nicely separated from, the high school area. E/MS classrooms are fully air-conditioned. Its campus has its own pondoks, covered eating areas, and playground. Half the computer lab is just for E/MS students. The library is also subdivided with a large area designated for E/MS books and resources. The gym, soccer field, and auditorium are shared by both E/MS and high school.

Each morning classes begin with prayer and Bible study. Along with the standard subjects, music is made an integral part of life at HIS. Grades K-3 have two period of vocal music weekly, but grades 4-5 have three. Instrumental instruction is given to all middle school students (6-8) three times weekly. Musical concerts are performed twice each semester. Parent volunteers provide art instruction weekly. The school has special education and ESL teachers as well as a speech pathologist.

Good science equipment provides a hands-on program of learning. All E/MS students receive two periods weekly in Indonesian language instruction. The students also enjoy their recess and the physical education classes in the gym.

The children sometimes just like to hang out in the pondoks or in the spacious outdoor eating area laughing with friends. These provide shade from the tropical sun but let a refreshing breeze blow from across the valley.
